Summary
Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC) is in compliance with this comprehensive standard. The College ensures the quality and effectiveness of its student affairs staff by hiring personnel who meet the requirements of job descriptions and by monitoring employees' performance.
Narrative
FTCC's Student Services division is staffed with highly qualified personnel. Select departments have staff members who are trained and qualified in pertinent areas central to student learning and development, e.g., foreign languages, American Foreign Language, military experience, and crisis management.
The College considers performance evaluation essential to the improvement of student support services, as well as the continuing development of the individual as a professional. A Performance Appraisal Manual is available to all faculty and staff and provides information regarding the official appraisal process.
The Performance Appraisal Manual, formerly the Performance Evaluation Manual, reflects a complete quality improvement overhaul of the college-wide evaluation process in Fall 2009. Evaluations using the former process and forms were completed for academic year 2009-2010. The new appraisal process begins with goal-setting in Spring 2010.
Supervisors, with input from their employees, establish the individual performance objectives for each employee. Supervisors and their employees review the performance dimensions listed on the Employee Performance Appraisal Form and indicate employability skills and performance attributes most critical to the function of the position. At the end of the appraisal period, employees are evaluated based upon performance skills, targeted goals, and attributes.
Current students and recent graduates have the opportunity to evaluate student support programs and services. Survey results are compared to previous years to identify trends and aid in quality improvements. Student Services uses this data to develop assessment plans measuring outcomes essential to student success.
FTCC provides numerous opportunities for professional development for all faculty and staff. Professional development workshops are provided at the beginning of each semester and at varying times throughout the semester. Academic advisors and counselors are encouraged to participate in Advising and Counseling Training (ACT), a course that emphasizes student success and retention. Additionally, all employees are encouraged to take advantage of tuition-free courses and the Tuition Reimbursement Program.
Self-directed learning is encouraged through the use of the Advising, Counseling, Credit For Prior Learning Handbooks, Financial Aid Handbook, and Special Populations Handbook.
