Narrative
Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC) is a public two-year educational institution. The institution was established in 1961 as the Fayetteville Area Industrial Education Center. On January 9, 1964 the institution was chartered as Fayetteville Technical Institute by authority from the North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges to award degrees, diplomas, and certificates in the State of North Carolina as set forth by the Community College Laws of North Carolina, Chapter 115D-5(a) of the North Carolina General Statutes. In January 1988, Fayetteville Technical Institute became Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC) when the North Carolina Department of Community Colleges and the North Carolina General Assembly encouraged all the technical colleges and institutes in the state to become community colleges. The change was in name only, as the purpose of Fayetteville Technical Community College remained intact (Board of Trustees Minutes, November 1987).
Since 1964, FTCC has been authorized by the North Carolina State board of Community Colleges to award degrees, diplomas, and certificates.
