Summary

Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC) is in compliance with this comprehensive standard. The Board of Trustees (BOT) reviews the mission and purpose statements at least biannually. The review typically occurs during the month of February as part of the College’s Planning Guide update and again in the month of September as part of the College’s annual Strategic Plan update.

Narrative

The major purpose of community colleges in North Carolina shall be to offer “vocational and technical education and training and of basic, high school level, academic education needed in order to profit from vocational and technical education, for students who are beyond the compulsory age limit of the public school system and who have left public schools….” (G.S. § 115D-1). The State Board of Community Colleges also requires each college to engage in an ongoing annual planning cycle process that includes consideration of the college’s mission, provided the planning process is consistent with the statutory mission described above (G.S. § 115D-20(7) and 23 NCAC 02B. 0205).

The FTCC Board of Trustees established the College’s Purpose Statement and reviews it regularly to ensure that it provides proper direction for the College. The Board most recently examined the Purpose Statement in February 2010. The FTCC Board of Trustees established the College’s Mission Statement and reviews it regularly to ensure that it provides proper direction for the College. The Board approved the current Mission Statement on February 16, 2009.
