Summary

Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC) is in compliance with this comprehensive standard.  FTCC defines and publishes general education and major program requirements for all its programs in the FTCC Catalog.  When determining these requirements, FTCC uses the Curriculum Standards specified by the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS).

Narrative

FTCC designs each program following the Curriculum Standards set forth by the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) and oversees all 58 community colleges.  The NCCCS specifies mandatory course and program content for all community colleges within the system that includes the requirements (pages 5-9) for each program of study.   The College publishes brief program descriptions, the academic requirements, and specific program accreditations in the FTCC Catalog.

Counselors provide students a copy of their Student Educational Plan (SEP) outlining required and elective courses for specific programs of study. Faculty advisors are provided copies of their students' SEP to assist students.  Students are encouraged to meet regularly with their advisors to make informed and sequential course choices. In Spring 2010, FTCC introduced a new electronic format for a SEP called EVAL. Students are able to access EVAL through WebAdvisor, Student Services, and Faculty Advisors.

The content and relevance of existing programs are confirmed by individual Program Advisory Committees that meet at least three times annually.  Advisory Committees are comprised of area occupational experts, employers, and FTCC instructors and administrators.  The respective committees forward their recommendations through supervisory channels for consideration by FTCC’s Curriculum Committee.

Each year, the program coordinator/department chairperson, program division chairperson, dean of each prospective program, and Associate Vice President of Curriculums perform a comprehensive Program Review and assessment for all curriculum programs. Both the Advisory Committee minutes and the Annual Program Reviews are housed within the WEAVEonline® Assessment Management System to assist program managers with ongoing program improvements and/or modifications.
