Summary
Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC) is in compliance with this comprehensive standard. FTCC has a well-defined process to regularly evaluate the effectiveness of each faculty member in accord with published criteria, regardless of contractual status. This process provides for the evaluation of all full-time and part-time instructors employed through Curriculum and Continuing Education.
The quality and effectiveness of the performance of each member of the FTCC faculty are measured by direct and indirect observations and submitted annually through the proper supervisory channels.
Narrative
The performance evaluation process at FTCC is long-standing. However, it is not a static process. The Performance Appraisal Manual, formerly the Performance Evaluation Manual, reflects a complete quality improvement overhaul of the college-wide evaluation process in Fall 2009. Evaluations using the former process and forms were completed for academic year 2009-2010. The new appraisal process begins with goal-setting in Spring 2010.
The Performance Appraisal Manual was developed by a committee consisting of faculty and staff. This committee conducted workshops in the fall 2009 semester to prepare faculty and staff for the launch of the new appraisal process.
In the new process, supervisors, with input from the faculty member, establish individual performance objectives. Supervisors and faculty review the performance dimensions listed on the Employee Performance Appraisal Form and indicate employability skills and performance attributes most critical to the function of the position. At the end of the appraisal period, employees are evaluated based upon performance skills, classroom observations, targeted goals and attributes.
The completed appraisals are submitted to the appropriate program area dean and are reviewed by the Associate Vice President for Curriculum Programs and the Vice President for Academic and Student Services. These evaluations become a part of the faculty member’s personnel file in the Human Resources office.
