Summary

Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC) is in compliance with this comprehensive standard. FTCC’s admissions policies are consistent with its mission statement, which focuses on vocational, technical, pre-baccalaureate, basic skills and literacy education, continuing education programs, and related services.

The College’s Admission policies are published in the Administrative Procedures Manual, FTCC College Catalog, or Student Handbook. Admission policies for each program vary, but all of them remain accessible to prospective students seeking placement within the programs or courses and include admission policy information related to international, transfer, and special credit students.  The current versions of these documents are posted on the FTCC website.

Narrative

College admission policies must remain in compliance with the  North Carolina Administrative Code 23 NCAC 02C.0301 (NCAC) and North Carolina Administrative Code 23 NCAC 02C.0305.

Admission policies are published within the Academic Procedures Manual. Admission guidelines are published in the FTCC College Catalog, the Student Handbook, and the FTCC website. FTCC’s purpose statement states that FTCC identifies the educational needs of applicants and assists students in satisfying these needs at a minimal expense.  Programs offered at FTCC support the College’s mission statement.  Students entering programs that require college-level math and English courses must take a placement test unless secondary and post-secondary transcripts are provided. Students not able to demonstrate a mastery of reading, mathematics, and English are still eligible for admission to a program but are required to take developmental courses.

Although FTCC has an open door policy, specific programs require specific admissions guidelines. Health Programs have limited enrollment and a competitive selective admission process with application deadlines. Admission requirements for College Connections students are available on the College website. North Carolina allows high school and home-schooled students who meet eligibility requirements to enroll in college courses. Students must have school principal and parental approval to be admitted via FTCC Application and the College Connections Enrollment Form. Information regarding admission of transfer students and international students, as well as re-admission information, can be found in the FTCC Catalog and website.  Students may also seek admission to the college for special credit.

The Admission policies in Continuing Education are consistent with the mission and purpose statements of Fayetteville Technical Community College. FTCC offers non-credit classes on a first-come, first-served basis through Occupational Extension and Community Service programs to those who wish to obtain education for personal enrichment or career development. Some Continuing Education classes have specific admission requirements; e.g., Law Enforcement and Protective Services, Certificated Nursing Assistant, Emergency Medical Training and Paramedic.   Basic Skills admission information is published in the Basic Skills Student Handbook. Admission to these programs is granted to adults 16 years of age or older with a desire to begin, continue, or expand their educational skills. Those under the age of 18 must have school and parental release forms. In addition, English as a Second Language (ESL) is designed for individuals 16 years or older whose native language is not English.
