Summary

Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC) is in compliance with this federal requirement. The College has published procedures for filing grievances and the steps for grievance resolution.

Narrative

A detailed description of the student grievance procedure can be found in the Student Handbook, which is posted to the FTCC website to ensure that the information is accessible to students, faculty, and staff. This covers academic appeals, sexual harassment, and grievance procedures.

The student is encouraged to resolve the complaint with the instructor or staff member on an informal basis.  During the effort to resolve the complaint on an informal basis, a conference must take place within five (5) working days of the incident that caused the complaint. If the grievance is not resolved at this level, the student may present a written grievance to the appropriate associate vice president within thirty (30) days of the incident that led to the grievance.

The associate vice president attempts to find resolution as outlined in the grievance procedure.  If the student is dissatisfied with the associate vice president’s decision, the student may, within five (5) working days, file a written grievance with the Vice President for Academic and Student Services.  If necessary, the student may appeal to others in the supervisory channels as outlined by the grievance procedure. The procedural timeline and appropriate supervisory channels are specified in detail in the Student Handbook.

The College maintains documentation of past student grievances in the appropriate dean's office, the appropriate associate vice president's office, and the appropriate vice presidents’ offices, depending upon the level of resolution.

The procedures governing student appeals can be found in the Academic Procedures Manual. The Student Appeals Committee maintains minutes for each meeting.
